Maternity/Parental Buyback Reminder Have you been on Maternity and/or Parental leave for a period of time on or after December 31, 1993? If so, you are eligible to buy back credited service relating to this leave. The cost to purchase the service will be calculated at the normal contribution rates of 5.1% of salary up to the CPP maximum, or Year's of Maximum Pensionable Earnings (YMPE), and at 7% thereafter, based on your annual salary immediately prior to the commencement of your leave. Only employees who were contributing into the Pension Plan prior to the leave are eligible to buyback this service. Employees who were on, or have completed their Maternity and/or Parental leave after June 30, 2001, are not eligible for this buyback. What should I do? If you are interested in buying back the service, we ask you to complete the Employee Application to Purchase Prior Maternity/Parental Leave form, which is located on the MTS forms directory in Lotus Notes. You may also obtain the form by calling 941-6748. Completing an application does not obligate you to purchase the buyback. Once we have received your application, you will be advised in writing of the cost to purchase the credited service, payment options available to you and the amount your monthly pension will increase if you proceed with the purchase of this service. This information will help you make your decision whether or not to purchase the service. How long do I have to make a decision? The opportunity to purchase non-pensionable service for Maternity and/or Parental leave is quickly coming to an end. Please note that your special Maternity and/or Parental buyback application will not be accepted after October 31, 2002.
